Preschool Program

Mike and I have always thought, "preschool graduation" is kind of silly. We were pleasantly surprised when Ellie's preschool put the emphasis on a Nursery Rhyme Program rather than graduation.

Ellie did a fabulous job performing the Nursery Rhymes. Particularly her individual part as Jack Sprat's wife.

We celebrated no more Preschool for Ellie with lunch at El Matador, courtesy of Nana.

The first song Joshua learned months ago was, "I Love To See The Temple" with a two-year old twist. "Be-Be-Bah" is temple in his language.

So when our opportunity came to have a special tour of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple, I wanted all of us to go together.

What a special occasion it was. Joshua clung tightly to his Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House pamphlet in one hand and held Megan's hand with his other as he reverently toured the temple.

It is a memory we hope for our children to always remember. The older three children signed their name on their pamphlets, and we traced Joshua and Drew's hands on theirs. We dated them and promised as a family to one day return all seven of us together to the temple when Drew is 19 years old.

"We love to see the temple, we went inside today."

P.S. I hope to never forget Luke's (temporary) souvenir from the temple. Ranch dressing! After the tour, we had refreshments, Luke liked the ranch dressing that was served with the salad so much, he brought some home because "this will taste really good with carrots." The sister in charge thought it was so cute, she sent us home with more.

Today's Ellie's Birthday, Shout Hooray . . .

Ellie is FIVE years old today!! After opening presents and a french toast breakfast, it was time for Preschool Lunch at the Park Day. Made complete with Megan's old Barbie Lunch bag, and new birthday shoes. . . despite mom's concerns that they might give blisters walking to the park. But really, what does Mom know? Especially when you're FIVE!

The first thing said to me, upon my arrival at the park was, "My shoes gave me blisters."
Seems, even when you're five you should still listen to your mom!

"Butterfly Birthday Party" was spent with friends Keagan and Kinzie Tashro, Ben Webster, Colin Tullis, Victoria Feo, Kira Wootton and of course siblings.
That evening was spent with Nana, Grandpa, James & Kristin and Jonah Evans (and family) for cupcakes and nachos. (Per Ellie's request.)

What happens at Nana's when Joshua thinks no one is looking...

Brrrrr-Megan, Luke and Mike slept outside. Notice they had to be completely covered in their sleeping bags to prevent possible hypothermia. I was inside with a 6 week old that likes to wake up and a 2 year old that likes to visit us during the night.
Friday evening was spent with our good friends, The Wieland Family. Mike and Keith enjoyed sitting by the fire, while Brandi and I made dessert. It took both of us to fix it as we both were holding babies!!
Saturday evening was spent with our good friends, The Taylor Family. Alan and Mike went on a bike ride to check out the sprinklers on the highway trail. Luke thought he'd be funny and take Daddy's bike and leave his, while Daddy wasn't looking!!! Pretty funny-Mike riding Luke's bike home.
Both nights the kids rang the doorbell and when we went to the door they were 'statues.' It was quite funny, but only the first time. . .

Need to Clarify

A couple of recent posts raised a few questions in my comment section and in conversation. I will address them now.

"Fully Dressed" title: The post was about Drew's first smile, I titled it Fully Dressed because of the Annie song, "You're never fully dressed without a smile." It had nothing to do with the clothing he or I was wearing that day, although, yes Casey, I did happen to be wearing sweats that day.

Half Birthday Cake: I make two round cakes from one cake mix. I freeze one of the rounds for when I get a chocolate cake craving. (Which is quite frequent because chocolate cake is my ALL TIME FAVORITE dessert.) I cut the other round in half, put the pieces on top of each other and frost with my 'Ultimate Chocolate Frosting' recipe. The cut edge doesn't ever look good-in fact I don't frost it, but who cares-1/2 birthday cakes are for immediate consumption.

(I don't know what will happen in a few more years-half a cake won't be enough for our family. The one I made for Luke last week was gone in one sitting, and that of course isn't including Drew who can't eat cake yet!)

Mother's Day Photo: Every year I get a good picture of the kids and me before church. So now, I actually think it is funny that this year we still got the picture...we're just in our pajamas!

I won't even begin to answer the question or queries of whether I am nicer to Mike now than I was when we had been married only minutes. I'll leave that question up to you. What do you think?

Happy Mother's Day

I mentioned to Mike on Saturday, that I wanted to get a nice picture of the kids and me before we went to church on Sunday, Mother's Day morning, when we were all looking fairly presentable.

Instead, Mother's Day has come and gone and this is the only picture proof!

Us in our pajamas...

... standing in front of the Mother's Day signs the kids drew at a Primary/Youth Activity last week. The Young Women delivered them early Mother's Day morning. It was a very fun surprise.

Fully Dressed

It's been 5 weeks of changing diapers, feeding a baby, rocking a baby, not so great nights, lots of extra laundry, not getting much else done, changing diapers, feeding a baby, rocking a baby, not so great nights, extra laundry, not getting much else done. . .

You know. That life adjusting to a newborn.

But Drew looked up at me, his eyes lit up and a smile appeared!

It made me cry. My baby smiled at me for the first time.

And though I couldn't get it repeated for the camera, and though I know the smiles will be few and far between for a couple more weeks...

That brief moment was one of those small rewards only a mother can know.
