Thursday Afternoon

WARNING: Often I ramble a long time to make a brief point! This post is no exception!
So the day began with Mike requesting at 2:57am for me to go to the store and get him some medicine. (He had already been sick for a couple of days and my patience with him being sick was wearing thin...-would make for a good whole 'nother post!) So, I politely declined him on the medicine and told him I would in two hours. As 5AM seemed a more reasonable hour????? I "slept in" and it was 5:53AM when I got out of bed and went to Walmart. So, my day began a little earlier than usual, by mid-afternoon I had a headache, (combination of listening to Mike and lack of good night's sleep!), Joshua was napping and I asked Luke and Ellie if they would play quietly for 15 minutes so I could lay on the couch. Well they couldn't play quietly and as their fighting woke up Joshua barely 1/2 way through his nap ... a few unkind words ... a couple of swatted bums....I was NOT in a good mood. All this as I suddenly remembered I had to take dinner to someone that evening....
Fast forward an hour or so. It was time to take Megan to dance and I joked with Mike that maybe I'd leave all the other kids home and take the uninterrupted dance time to work on my Relief Society lesson for Sunday. What do you know, my dear, kind generous SICK husband...AGREED! And here is the point of my whole rambling blog.
After I dropped Megan off at dance, I decided I wanted a treat, but not just any "everyday" treat would do, so...I went to the Lion House Pantry inside Deseret Book, shyly surveyed their menu...ordered me a slice of chocolate cream cake...returned to the car...got out my lesson papers...and ate THE WHOLE SLICE OF CAKE!!!! How pathetic is my life that I sat there almost giddy with the satisfaction of a purely perfect dessert, no children around me, and all alone for the next 45 minutes!!!
I'd have titled the post "Guilty Pleasure" but that wouldn't be accurate! I didn't feel guilty at all. Instead I felt like maybe....just maybe... I DESERVED IT!

P.S. I'd never paid attention to the new Lion House Pantry within each Deseret Book. They have a delicious looking menu. Lunch anyone???

Hmmm... Not Sure What To Think....

Now, "headstrong and fiesty" I would agree with, BUT..."romantic dreams about the world around you"??????????? And am I really "a little naive"????
Looking forward to seeing what princesses all of my "blogging friends" are...

Headstrong and fiesty. You have a mind of your own that's full of romantic dreams about the world around you. Exploring exotic places is your ultimate dream, and although you can be a little naive you'll realize that there is something to be gained from your family's wisdom.

Kids Say . . . . .

The other day, Megan reminded me of an embarrassing experience she had just this last Christmas, and it has inspired a post. Megan was in a class at school before Christmas and they were discussing different decorations used at Christmas. She raised her hand and said, "My mom always puts 'garlic' on the stair-rails." I guess her teacher had said, "Interesting, I've never heard of that." The first thing Megan asked upon arriving home from school that day as she stood pointing at our stairs, was "What is this?" I replied, "GARLAND." Megan started to laugh... and I realized that I've heard her say "garlic" before, but I guess thought it was cute and never corrected.
As I've thought about that, I realize, there are many words I don't correct because they are so darn cute!? Any other parents guilty of the same thing? And do you think it does any permanent harm?

A few:
"mow-lawn" = lawnmower
"Walking Man" = Crossing Guard
"threeway" = freeway
"alligator" = elevator
"tample" for "temple"
"beltseat" = "seatbelt"
"bomato" = tomato
"snow" = powdered sugar
"home family evening" = Family Home Evening
After I gave a talk in church Ellie said, "I couldn't sit with you because you were up "taking a talk."

Don't even get me started on funny prayers, questions, thoughts etc. Actually that would be another good post....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIE!

On Tuesday, Ellie celebrated her 4th birthday. Where have the four years gone? My first two kids, I felt like I wished their first few years away, anxious for the "next stage." I finally think I "get it," ...just enjoy every stage! Ellie is 4! Ellie had a great day. She received many nice gifts but her favorites have to be, her new child-size picnic table, new Barbie scooter, new necklaces and new markers. She keeps asking when her next birthday is, "Will I have another one in the Summer?" Happy Birthday Ellie! We love you and are so glad you're part of our family.

Will It Pass The Test?

So it all began when I had been married 3 months and it was Mike's 25th birthday. (Actually rewind, it all began when I was a child and ALWAYS had a homemade/decorated birthday cake.) I thought it would be thoughtful to make Mike a boat cake as he very much enjoyed waterskiing at the time. Imagine my disappointment when Mike looked at the cake and asked, "What's the triangle supposed to mean?" (Of course there is no picture after that comment!) So then, Megan came along. Her first birthday cake I realized that pictures in magazines still require some skill to duplicate. Mike's comment? "You tried." Next came her 2nd birthday, Mike needed to make no comment because Megan could speak for herself. When I excitedly showed her the Barney cake she said, "What's tat?" My confidence has slowly increased and with the exception of just a few, most of the cakes I am quite proud of. The ultimate test always seems to be Mike and Megan's approval, neither of which have seen my latest cake attempt. So here is a glimpse of a horrible tradition I have started-homemade-made-to-order cakes!

So...here is Ellie's 4th birthday cake which will debut this afternoon at her requested "Purse party." (Yes-most kids have character themed parties-not Ellie!) I lucked out from feeling like I had to do any fancy frosting this time-as two little friends coming to her party are both dairy intolerant and can only have a certain brand of store-bought frosting! Yeah! Less work for me!

Ellie's 3rd birthday cake-Please note Mike actually declared this one, "The best yet."

Worth the Wait!

So a week after Mother's Day I received my new bike! I love it. Mike had it specially made and surprised me with it when I got home on Saturday evening! Though we've taken a few rides around the neighborhood, the "inaugural ride" is going to be riding to school this morning... Thanks Mike!

"The Prophet Said To Plant A Garden"

Is it obedience to the prophet or reacting to the high price of groceries?

There is absolutely nothing like the flavor and taste of homegrown vegetables, or knowing you have all the ingredients to bottle salsa growing in the backyard!

However, I disagree with ALL parenting suggestions that say, if you involve your children in the planting, they will be very likely to eat the produce from the excitement of their efforts. Yeah right, like Luke would EVER eat a piece of zucchini, a tomato or a pepper!
