After having big birthday parties (theme, party favors (often homemade!), guest visitors (one year Barney!, fancy cakes) for her last 9 birthdays, she thought it would be a novelty to have a 'family party!' and wanted a cake that was a "rectangle with 10 on it." EASY, EASY, EASY!! and with her birthday, falling on a Sunday this year, it worked out perfectly.
We went to The Mayan for dinner yesterday, with her friend Kassi from American Fork, and of course Nana and Grandpa. (When I clarified last week with Megan that she only wanted us and Kassi, she said, "Well duh, of course Nana and Grandpa too."
Megan woke us up before 6am, too excited to sleep any longer. Mike doesn't understand, I completely do. (If you've always been blessed to have good birthdays you know the anticipation and excitement that surrounds them.) We did make her wait until 7am before she awakened Joshua, Ellie and Luke-who of course wake up willingly and happily when it is any member of the family's birthday (I am convinced birthday excitement is NATURE not NURTURE!!!)
We opened presents, had a cooked breakfast (courtesy of Daddy), the kids tested out her new coloring set, we all showered/dressed and were in our seats at 8:55am waiting for church to begin!!
Later, Nana and Grandpa, Uncle Casey and Aunt Cindy and the Evans family joined us for dinner and cake/ice cream. And of course, according to tradition, we took turns around the table telling Megan why we each like her. (Just a few responses: She is polite, energetic, responsible, gave me her candy at church...)We missed Uncle James and Kristin, but Ellie kept reminding us ("They are on a big ship kind of by Florida"-(a honeymoon Caribbean Cruise)
Megan was lucky to receive many nice gifts; books, pajamas, clothes, girly jewelery/makeup stuff, CD, DVD, giftcard, money and cook books.
